Every Suit Has A Silver Lining

Every Suit Has A Silver Lining.

What does your suit say about you?

Last weekend whilst sitting down to a wedding breakfast. I glanced across to a guest’s suit jacket laid almost sheepishly over the back of a chair. The collar was turned up and the sleeve lay curled around one of the legs. But what made the jacket look even sadder during the slight sniggers at the best mans speech, was what could only be described as a dull and heavily creased dark grey lining. Like the surface of an uninhabitable planet.

It got me thinking about the range of linings available on the market for men’s suit jackets, and what they say about their owners personalities. Most off the peg high street suits tend to have a simple but contrasting lining and with bespoke suits you can choose from a range of colours to match your taste. However what if a lining really could give you an insight into the personality of its owner? A suit lining with your own print or embellishment that presents a statement as well as a message to the eagle-eyed viewer about who you are.

Designer Thom Browne previously designed a jacket lined with patches of silk from Madras, India as mentioned in GQs The 50 Most Stylish Things in the World, whilst Bespoke Tailors Cad & Dandy have created their range of design your own DNA Art on silk.

So I say why can’t the ordinary man add their own personal touch by adding a lining to their suit, which really shows off who they are. Don’t just settle for the standard array of shiny, silky linings, add a print of your favourite music, destination (as below) or mood and (discreetly!) shout out from your jacket what you’re really feeling.  You’ll feel better, even if no one else notices.
